Sewage Backup – The Pains and Stains of Sewage Backup

Every homeowner who spots sewage backup slowly rising from the drainage outlet and flooding your beautifully tiled floor with gray or rather dark gray, wastewater, would agree that it can be one of the worst nightmares. The idea of Sewage backup already invading your house and especially, attacking the place where we cook your food – your kitchen – can be devastating indeed.

Foul things would come into your mind as you imagine what sewage backup would possibly contain : solid wastes from cleaning pots, pans and dishes; dirty water from bathing, cleaning hands and feet, along with all the dirt and grime from a hard days work; and even human excrement for that matter. You would possibly retched while these things flood your mind, in the same way that sewage backup have flooded your kitchen floor.

What can you do in this instance?

First, you need to get to the source of the flooding, which can be an overflowing septic reservoir. In certain part of the Industrial Area, there can neither be a centralized drainage nor a sewage system where waste materials from structures are collected and transported to waste water treatment facilities. What most structures have are septic reservoirs, which are more like a well or a hole in the ground, where all wastewater are collected. If this happens, immediately call your local sewage service to go and pump out the overflowing waste material from the reservoir.

While waiting for the pumping service to arrive, just do whatever you can do to control the problem. Using pails and other containers, manually remove the accumulated water from the sewage backup and physically transfer this to another reservoir outside. It could be a painstaking task but it needs to be done to control any further damage that the sewage backup could cause.

Soon as the pumping services arrive, you can rest and let the professionals do their job. Watch the black waters from the sewage backup slowly recede. You may even notice indescribable materials floating in the murky water, which can make you want to puke. Finally, all wastewater and materials should be removed from the reservoir. Expect that quite a considerable amount of these waste materials would remain on the surface. It would look like a white table cloth stained by scattered food and drinks debris after a wild party!

With the damage done, you definitely need to clean the kitchen floor with all your mops, brushes, used toothbrushes and what-have-you, as well as using what seems to be buckets of detergent, bleach and even fabric softener – to freshen out the smell. With all the stains removed, check and clean all the appliances and furniture that could have been contaminated from the sewage backup, making sure that not a hint of stain, and even smell, are left out.

To finalize your restoration, sprayed the area with disinfectant, making sure that every nook and crannies is well treated and disinfected from any possible germs.
